Our Salisbury Life duties took us to the Salisbury Cathedral to visit the "Night Visions" event. The Cathedral looked amazing and I was lucky enough to be given a private tour by David Coulthard, the Marketing and Communications Director; thank you David for your time.
They had over 1000 people through the door which will hopefully mean it will now become an annual event.
David Coulthard, Director of Marketing and Visitor Services, said “We’re delighted to be part of this year’s ‘Museums at Night’ celebration by opening the Cathedral for the evening and have devised three fast moving hours of different activities to entertain our younger and older visitors alike. There are four elements to the evening: music, stories, tours and hands-on activities. This event is a ‘first’ for the Cathedral. Come along for the evening, we might just surprise you!”
There will be music including a ‘come and sing’ workshop, organ demos, stories and poems in the lantern-lit cloister garden, special mystery object treasure hunts in both the cathedral and cloisters, an introduction to the medieval frieze of well-known bible stories in the Chapter House and a quirky history ‘Things-you-never-knew’ trail of the cathedral. ‘Hands-on’ activities include creating beautiful illuminated letters, medieval clay gargoyles and a patterned candle-holder and a chance to have a go at some poetry writing. For the more energetic there are swift 45 minute tower tours to see the view over the city from the top of the cathedral tower as evening falls (age and height restrictions apply).”
Museums at Night is the annual after-hours celebration of arts, culture and heritage when hundreds of museums, galleries, libraries, archives and heritage sites open their doors for special evening events. It is coordinated by Culture24.
