I am very proud to announce that I have had 2 images scored as HIGHLY COMMENDED in the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers (SWPP) monthly competition.

I don't enter the competition very often, mainly due to lack of time but I feel it is important now and again to ensure standards are kept up, or better still my skills are improving. I only ever enter images that have been captured during REAL commissioned shoots and not ones that have been set up using models specifically for competition entry. I feel this is important to ensure I can produce quality images under pressure.

The marking system has been changed since I last entered the competition from; Unclassified, Bronze, Silver and Gold, to; Disqualified, Not Awarded, Highly Commended and Gold; I have included a description of the new award system at the bottom of this post.

Spire Travel Shoot

On Saturday we were at the wonderful Norman Court near West Tytherley, SP5 1NH. We had been commissioned to shoot the Spire Travel fleet of cars for their new website and advertising material.

We were very happy to have Conleigh Bridalwear of Stockbridge and Lena Rose, our model, with us to add a little John Rose Photography extras to the shoot. Vanessa, owner of Conleigh Bridalwear, was kind enough to lend us one of her amazing wedding dresses for Lena to wear for the morning. Lena, a friend of Mandy's, was amazing as our beautiful bride.

While we were at this beautiful location we shot a few images for Norman Court and Conleigh Bridalwear to use in the marketing campaigns; I will post these later in a separate blog post.

Update on Phil Muspratt, Salisbury's Champion Swimmer

A while ago we posted some details on a local swimmer who we were supporting local-swimmer-phil-muspratt-goes-for-gold. We caught up with Phil earlier and he gave us an update on his progress.

Swimming Update since the Ukraine

Following my success in the Ukraine I have been hugely busy in the tail end of 2011. As soon as I landed back home I was in holiday mode for a week, as I had been training through the squads summer break in preparation for the European Championships, so I’d had no summer break what so ever up until this point.

Iwas soon back in the pool following my week off & competing for SalisburyStingrays in the County Summer League; of which Salisbury competed in Division 1. I won the100m freestyle in a time of 51.9 seconds, which would’ve been a Personal Best,if it had been electronically timed.

Fromthis point I continued to train well knowing I had a busy & importantperiod of competing towards the end of 2011. I had a couple of reasonably localevents; namely the Poole Masters Open Meet & the South West RegionalMasters Sprint Championships, at Millfield in Somerset. At these two events I was happy tocome away with golds in all of the races I’d entered at each event, seven at Poole and six at Millfield. In addition, I was also partof the Masters squad that claimed a fourth consecutive County title, afterround three of the County Championships in October.

Inthe weeks leading up to mid October I trained hard on all aspects of myswimming; in the pool, gym, running & fitness classes. This led me to aweeks warm weather intense training camp in Spain with Salisbury Stingrays,where we trained in a long course (50m pool), for two hours, twice a day. Thiswas a very hard weeks training, but of huge benefit. Sadly the weather for thefirst half of the week was more like Scotlandrather than Spain,but I got approximately 50,000 meters training under my belt, so it was worthit.

The day we flew back & landed at Gatwick, my friend and I didn’t return home to Salisbury with the rest of the travelling squad. Instead we got on a train to Sheffield to compete at the National Masters Championships, held at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre. Going into the event I knew I was up against some very tough competition in Matt Tutty. He may not stand out as one of the most famous British male sprinters, but he is by no means somebody who shouldn’t be respected. The City of Salford swimmer won the British Championships three years running; in 2005, 2006 & 2007, only for the better known Mark Foster to reclaim the title in 2008. In December 2006 he took notable scalp of Pieter van den Hoogenband in the 50m freestyle final at the Dutch World Championships Trials in Eindhoven. Van den Hoogenband famously rivaled Ian Thorpe in the pool while Thorpe was dominating the sport in the early to mid 2000’s.

Icame away from the Nationals with two bronze medals; normally I’d bedisappointed with such results, as my natural ambition is to win every event Ienter. However considering I’d not rested or tapered my training going intothis event and that I’d been travelling all day the day previous, I waschuffed. In my 100m freestyle, I produced a time of 52.15 seconds, afterleading the race at the 75-meter mark & then tiring immensely on the final25 meters. I knew this would only happen again in my 200m freestyle race, so Iinstead used the event as a 100m Time Trial, in an effort to obtain the PB timeI knew I was capable of. I was delighted to eventually claim a PB, for my 100mfreestyle, in a time of 51.64 seconds. This time would’ve won me gold if I’dachieved it in an actual 100m race rather than a TT.

Ialso claimed a Seasons Best time in the 50m freestyle. This was massivelyencouraging, as I hadn’t been doing any kind of specific sprint training sincebefore I went to the Ukraineback in September, this includes plyometrics, spin class, hill running orsprint work with the athletics club. Plyometric training is a type of exercisetraining designed to produce fast, powerful movements, and improve thefunctions of the nervous system, generally for the purpose of improvingperformance in sports. So once I have all my sprint specific training up &running, I should be improving even further.

The start of my “end of year busy period” startedin November where I went on to compete for the next six consecutive weekends.My first stop was at the Aquae Sulis Grand Prix in Bath. This was a level 1 open meet whichmeant only the fastest swimmers in the country can qualify for the event. Tohighlight the caliber of the event, the 200m breasktroke had three Great Britaininternational swimmers entered.

I entered the 100m and 50m freestyle and came awaywith a bronze & silver respectivly.I was disappointed with my 100m freestyle, yet I was well aware of the factthat I’d been feeling tired in training the past few days. At the time I was inthe mind set that I should train through this tough period & hope that myracing form would improve in my 100m event. If I was to forever rest whenfeeling tired, I’d never get any training done! I was however happy with my 50mfreestyle as I recorded a PB of 24.11 seconds.

Onthe same weekend in November I was selected to swim for the Wiltshire Mastersteam, where they were competing in the Inter County Championships. I picked upa win in my individual 50m freestyle race as well as 5 wins in the relays I wasselected for.

Ontwo separate weekends, during this aforementioned ‘busy 6 week period’ Icompeted for Salisbury Stingrays in the National Arena League. Here Salisbury was againstteams from across the South West region. Due to a restructuring to the league, Salisbury was promoted toDivision One. The first of the two weekends Salisburywere competing in the third & final round of the Division One fixtures, in Plymouth. This was in aneffort to qualify for the divisions A or B final. The league, come the end ofthe three rounds will be divided in two, the top half of the league compete inthe A final and the bottom half the B final. Thanks to our results in Plymouth and in the earlier rounds, Salisbury qualified for the A final despitetheir lower seeding.

Inthe final itself, which was held at MillfieldSchool in Somerset,Salisbury wenton to claim 5^th place, three places beyond their seeded positiongoing into the competition. I was pleased to pick up wins for Salisburyin the 100m in both the final round fixture in Plymouth& the final itself, held at MillfieldSchool in Somerset.

Myfinal masters swimming came at the East Districts Championships, held in Edinburgh, Scotland.Unfortunately on the day of competition I was suffering from illness. I wasonly able to come away with four silvers & one gold from the races Ientered. I swam far from my best, however I wasn’t too disappointed given thecircumstances.

Itook the decision after reviewing my recent form in the pool, especially in my100m freestyle events, to take a week off from training. I had been feelinglethargic in training & my form hadn’t been very good while racing. It allcame to a head while in Scotlandwhere the tiredness turned into illness. With the importance of swimming at theSouth West Regional Short Course Championships, it was vital for me to be atsome level of fitness; good enough for me to do the club and myself justice. Soin the week leading up to the SW Regional Championships, I rested. In that weekI only went into the gym to stretch, I took plenty of vitamin C & ate theright foods. During that week I had a light training session on the Thursdaybefore the weekends competition. I didn’t ideally want to take a week offtraining but it was clear that ‘training through it’, as I had done in previousweeks, was doing me no favours.

Thelevel of competition at the SW Regional Championships was fierce, especiallyconsidering the presence of Plymouth Leander. To put things into context theyare like the Man City of the region & one of the bestclubs in the country & certainly the best in the region. They boast severalinternational swimmers on varying levels, whether it is Junior, Youth or fullinternational level.

Againthe SW Regional Championships was held at MillfieldSchool, in Somerset. My first event of the competitionwas the 50m freestyle & I was over the moon to claim a silver medal, in atime of 23.21 seconds. I took pride in the fact that the only swimmer whomanaged to beat me, won silver at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in India and goesby the name of Anthony James. Also in doing so, I beat several swimmers who’drepresented Great Britainat varying levels. The time in which I won my silver medal was a new PB &put me 17^th in the current British swimming rankings. This now meansI’m ranked 3^rd in the British Masters short course rankings & 17^thin the British rankings (basically this is the ranking of every swimmer in thecountry over certain disciplines, including professionals).

Thefollowing day I was back in the pool in the 100m freestyle. Having qualified forthe final in a PB time of 51.48 seconds, I went on to claim 5^thplace in final in another PB time of 51.33 seconds. Of the four swimmers who’dfinished ahead of me, one was again a silver medallist at the 2010 CommonwealthGames, one swam for Great Britain in a relay at the 2010 Commonwealth Games,one was a double medallist at the European Junior Championships and the otherhas appeared for Great Britain in a FINA World Cup meet, in Berlin in 2011.

Myfinal action of 2011 was at the Level One Open Meet at Hillingdon, London. Attending thecompetition was Craig Gibbons who swam at the World Championships for Great Britain in 2006 (in Melbourne)and 2008 (in Manchester).He’s also swam for Great Britain at the 2004, 2008 & 2009 EuropeanChampionships, as well as having several other international appearances from2004 to as recently as last year. My first event of the weekend was the 100mfreestyle. After competing for the last 6 weekends in a row, my performancecertain told a tired story, where I finished in a disappointing sixth place. IfI had equalled my current best time I would’ve claimed a bronze medal. Thefollowing day I was back in the pool and put on a much better display in the50m freestyle, where I finished in third position, behind eventual winner CraigGibbons.

Mynatural aim is to win every race I enter, but 12 months ago I was nearlystopped swimming all together. So to look back over the past year, see myselfgetting over my personal problems that hindered me in 2010 and to now be medallingin the same competitions (level 1 open meets) that international swimmers areattending, is a massive boost to me. I may not be winning every race I enter,but putting things into prospective while considering the past 12 months or so,I’m really pleased with how I’ve done this past year.

Overthe next 12 months I aim to obviously continue getting fitter, stronger andfaster. I fully believe I can win at the tough level 1 open meets that I attend& with that will come British Championships qualification times, where thebetter known Rebecca Addlington & Liam Tancock compete. I have qualified forthe National Youth Championships next July and here I believe I can at leastreach the final & even medal at these championships.

Anna, Chris and the Kids - Win Your Wedding

Today John was with Anna, Chris and the kids for their free pre-wedding/family portrait shoot.

Anna and Chris are the winners of the Salisbury Journal, Ladies Who Love, Society Magazine, Win Your Wedding Competition. We were one of the Gold Sponsors donating over £1600 worth of photography as a prize.

The couple are getting married on Valentines Day and John took them to Elizabeth Gardens in Salisbury today to capture some images of them all together, to get them used to being photographed and so they could see how John likes to work. This is a process that we like to go through with all our wedding clients to ensure we get relaxed and fun images on the wedding day.

It has come to my attention thatthere are rumours abound about the remuneration that I receive from SalisburyCity Football Club. It has been mentioned to me that “it must be a good little earner for you”, so I thought I would justclarify the situation. I do realise it is no-one’s business but mine and theclubs but it was mentioned to me yesterday that the thoughts people have aboutthis relationship may be affecting my business.

I need to start by saying that this is NOT a complaint about the cluband that I am very happy with the relationship we have and which I agreed too.

I had been a fan for a few yearsbut not really been involved in any way other than watching matches and beingallowed to photograph in and around the club for my A-level Photography courseback in 2007. When all the changes took place after we were relegated Iapproached Paul Fredericks about combining two of my passions, Salisbury CityFC and Photography, and shooting the matches and team pictures for them. We agreedwhat would and wouldn’t be included as part of the agreement and a letter wasexchanged.

I DO NOT RECEIVE ANY REMUNERATIONFOR THE SERVICES I SUPPLY TO THE CLUB

I get a listing on the websiteand in the match day programme as well as my logo on the images in the SarumSuite; these framed images were supplied and erected by me free of charge. The clubsupplies me with free travel too and from away matches and my FA ConferenceLicense gives me free access to home and away matches.

I supply images to the club withmatch images for their use and they credit me wherever they are used. I alsosupply Sarum Graphics with images for use in the match day programme free ofcharge and if away clubs need images I supply them free of charge. I willsometimes be asked for images from newspapers and magazines and these I am ableto get a small remuneration for.

I hope that clears up anyconfusion and thoughts that I am taking money from the club. Please feel freeto repeat what has been said here to anyone suggesting I take remuneration fromthe club for my services.

On Friday morning the FA CUP made a visit to the Raymond McEnhill Stadium, the home of Salisbury City FC. The lads had their last training session before leaving for Sheffield and had the chance to look at, and touch, the prize they would be playing for on Saturday.

The Ray Mac was a very popular place on Friday with media from all over visiting to speak to the players and staff. We were a little late leaving because of this but no real harm done to the preparation plans.

Sky's Soccer AM come to the Raymond McEnhill Stadium, Salisbury

Rocket and the team from Sky's Soccer AM made a visit to a rain swept Raymond McEnhill Stadium on 29th December ahead of the clubs highly anticipated visit to Sheffield United in the third round of the FA Cup on 7th January. The Team were filmed while competing in the programme's Crossbar Challenge; for those that don't know this is where the players have to try and hit the crossbar with a ball kicked from the half way line.

This is a history making game for The Whites as it is the first time in the club's history they have made it this far in the competition.

The lads were in high spirits and certainly enjoying the attention of the Sky cameras. The challenge is due to be screened on Soccer AM on the 7th January prior to the game; I am sure they will all be watching before the big game.

These people do such a fantastic job, working long hours caring for others it was lovely to see them all let their hair down and enjoy what was a great evening. This morning we took up our role as the official Lucy's Days Out photographers by joining them in the Sarum Suite at Salisbury Hospital. Today was the day they handed over a huge donation of electronic games, a new dinner service and cutlery, trays and many other things the ward had asked for to entertain the children.

Julie Page, Lucy's mum said, "Lucy's Days Out is donating these items to the new Sarum Suite in memory of Lucy and in appreciation of the care that was given to Lucy during her treatment.

We have bought things the ward has asked for to entertain the children whilst they are in hospital and new dinner services, trays and cutlery for a nicer environment.

We are also going to donate selection boxes for children in hospital over the festive season, any donations to Magic Carpets by December 12th would be greatly received. Last year we had 98 boxes donated, thank you"

L'Occitane en Provence, Butcher Row, Salisbury, Grand Opening

On the 4th October L'Occitane opened its doors in Butcher's Row, Salisbury. A world wide company with boutiques in 30 states across the US and in over 70 countries around the world. In the current climate and with all of the bad press associated with Salisbury parking it is good to see at least on company thinking Salisbury is worth the investment.

We were employed to capture the essence of the boutique and the event, as well as the cutting of the ribbon by the Mayor, Councillor John Abbott.

A Family Portrait

As part of our ongoing commitment to the local businesses Mark and his family used our offer of 20% off to employees of Waitrose to have an updated family portrait. We went to their house and took some individual and group shots of the family. A week or so later they came to our office in Old Sarum to view the images on our large screen and to choose the images they wanted.

Guide Dogs for the Blind Association Anniversary Dinner at The Legacy Rose and Crown Hotel, Harnham

On the 30th September we were at The Legacy Rose and Crown Hotel, Harnham Road, Salisbury, for The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association Anniversary Dinner. We try and support as many charities as our busy schedule allows and we were asked specifically to attend this event by the manager of the Legacy Rose and Crown after we completed a commercial shoot for the hotel earlier in the year.

As always we met some lovely people and had a bit of a laugh too.

Jungle Jim at Godolphin School for Lucy's Days Out

We were at Godolphin School on the 25th September for the Lucy's Days Out children's party with Jungle Jim.

Jungle Jim is very funny and his animals are just brilliant. The kids, and adults, had a great time with cake and juice being served at the interval and lots of toys, games and LDO merchandise available for purchase.

Lucy's Days Out Balloon Launch at Salisbury Cathedral

On the 23rd September, the first anniversary of the date Lucy lost her battle against “Rhabdomyosarcoma” a solid inoperable tumor in her head, Julie, Steve and their family along with the LDO event team and many of her school friends came together to mark the event with a balloon launch in the grounds of Salisbury Cathedral.

We were there to record the event and join in on what was a time of mixed emotions for everyone.

Taylor's 1st Birthday

Another portrait shoot from September. The gorgeous Taylor is the daughter of Natasha and Steve whose wedding I photographed back in 2009. I was very honoured to be asked to do a family portrait on the day before her 1st Birthday in a park local to their home.

When we do a wedding it is always nice to hear the lovely comments about the images and how we worked on the day, etc. but it is not until you are called back to photograph another special event in their life that you can really appreciate that you did a good enough job that they want you again.

Lucy's Days Out All-Stars v Salisbury City FC 1st XI

Salisbury City FC played host to a special event, in support of local charity Lucy’s Days Out. Lucy was a local girl who very sadly lost a long battle with cancer after battling the illness for many years. She was only six years old when she was diagnosed. You can find out more about Lucy, and her wish to set up a charity to help provide children living with cancer with fun days out, by visiting the the Lucy’s Days Out website.

England Star Peter Shilton was there to offer advice and support to the LDO team and to have his picture taken with the teams and supporters of the event. We were there for the day to capture the event for the charity as well as provide printed images of supporters which Peter then signed.

The LDO team put up a good fight but the Salisbury 1st team were a little too strong coming out 15-1 winners.

Joanne and Ivor, Durrington Church and The High Post Inn

Ivor and Joanne were married in Durrington Church on September 3rd. A lovely ceremony, Joanne looked gorgeous in her purple dress and was proudly escorted by her father. They had some lovely readings during the service as well musical recital.

The group shot was taken from the bell tower. There was a tiny little window which I had to crawl across a table and safety barrier to get too. A little difficult to get to but worth it to get the shot.

The happy couple travelled to The High Post Inn in a lovely old car which we followed so we could get a few shots before speeding on to the reception ready for their arrival.. The guests travelled in a double decker bus to and from the church which was unusual, but with parking at the church a premium it was a great idea.

Trussell Trust Ladies Night

We attended the Trussell Trust Ladies Night to do a few shots with a pink themed backdrop which was their theme colour. They asked us to do a few shots with a frame for a prop to add a different dimension to the shots. A great night with a significant amount of money raised for the charity, which is what these events are all about.

This wedding was a very last minute addition to our calendar. We had a call from an Aunt of the couple saying they had been let down at the last minute by their photographer and was there any way we could squeeze them into our calendar; the call came 2 weeks before the wedding was due to take place.

We had an evening event in the calendar but said we could come and do up to the cutting of the cake if that would help. Well she was very pleased of our help so John went along and got some fantastic images, some of which you can see below. It was a very hot day so he did most of the images inside to spare Amber from the heat. They were a lovely couple with equally lovely family's. The best man was a great laugh and we were glad we were able to help them out.

The Aunt was so pleased with the images she was in tears during the viewing.

RETT Charity Football Tournament

It has been a while since I posted anything on the blog and my apologies for that. We have had a very busy summer and over the next few days I am hoping to catch up with the blogging by posting a few selected images from some of the things we have been up too.

The first of these "catch up" posts is from the RETT football tournament which is held annually in Andover. We have been supporting this charity for a number of years. Rett syndrome is a severe, life long neurological disorder, more details can be found at http://www.rettuk.org.

Salisbury City FC notch up their first win

It wasn't the prettiest of games to watch but City will take 3 crucial points and the confidence that they bring.

I first met Kate and Ian in 2009 when I was asked to capture their wedding day at New House in Redlynch. I had the pleasure of photographing another special part of Kate and Ian's life a couple of weeks ago when I was invited to go and take some family portraits on their beautiful daughter Lucy's1st Birthday. Local lad Phil still lives and trains locally and John Rose Photography has agreed to sponsor Phil as he works hard for his next big goal. Phil is looking for potential sponsors to come on board to help him reach his goal.

Education: I went to school locally, having grown up in Salisbury all my life. I first went to Wyndham Park Infants School, originally on St. Marks Road & also when it moved next to the St. Marks Junior School site. I then attended St. Marks Junior School, from here I left for Wyvern College. Having done my GCSE’s I then went to Salisbury College where I done a National Diploma & then a Higher National Diploma in Computing.

Employment: I worked at Waitrose for 6 years working in the Car Park as part of the checkouts team (enthralling as I’m sure you can imagine). I currently work at James Hay Pension Trustees as an administrator in the Reconciliations team.

Early Years: I was always a bit of a water baby, I remember my Mum taking me to the parent & toddler sessions at the old swimming pool on College Street. I went through all the usual badges quite quickly as a child, I think I finished my “gold” badge by the time I was 8. I had the option of joining Salisbury swim team soon after, but apparently according to my Mum I wasn’t keen on the idea! When my younger sister continued to do her badges & I inadvertently made trips to the pool to collect her with Mum, I confessed that I missed swimming and I soon found myself training for Salisbury from the age of 10.

Back Ground - I am a swimmer who represents my city and county at various levels. I swim for Salisbury Stingrays, which has a squad with varying age groups, from around 10 years of age up to 16+ years. I also swim for Salisbury masters where age groups start at 18-24 and go up in 4year age brackets there after. It is through the Masters swimming side of things that I’ll be attending The European Masters Championships in the Ukraine in September.

Honours – I have won several county titles, currently of which I am the 50m 100m and 200m freestyle champion. I came second in the 50m freestyle at the most recent South West Regional Long Course Championships where only James Young (Commonwealth medallist) beat me. In November of 2009 I won the South West Regional Short Course Championships & aim to reclaim the title later this year.

This year I claimed two silvers & a gold at the British Masters Long Course Championships. I won the 200m freestyle and was narrowly pipped to two silvers in the 50 & 100m freestyle (by 0.01 second in the 50m freestyle!).

I won four golds & a silver at the Scottish National Short Course Championships back in April. I was enraged to miss out on gold in the 50m freestyle. I had only been back in the pool for three week prior to the event due to illness, but it was no excuse for not winning that event.

100m IM – Gold

200m freestyle – Gold
50m backstroke – Gold
50m freestyle – Silver

Future Aims – I have the European Masters Long Course Championships in September. This will be my 1st true international competition, so this will be a totally new experience for me. I will be competing in the 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle. Despite this I naturally want to return home with a medal. The championships are being held in the Ukraine.

The Strawberry Fox Models at Wilton Supercar Show

We were at Wilton House today for the Supercar Show which is hosted by Lord and Lady Pembroke in the magnificent grounds of their home in Wilton. We were exhibiting as part of the Business Through Referrals (BTR) networking group.

The Strawberry Fox had their models on hand to demonstrate their wears and we took the opportunity to capture a few images in some of the many fabulous cars on show. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Williams Sports Cars who very kindly let us use two of their Morgan's and Charles Matthews who let us use his Austin Healey.

Salisbury took on old foes from the Blue Square Premier today at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium. Their last but one friendly before the first league game at home to Thurrock they fielded a strong team for the clash.

It was a very good performance and coming out 2-1 winners will certainly boost them for next weeks game against Bath.

On the July 9, 2011 we travelled to Cornwall to photograph the wedding of Millie and James. The reason we have not blogged this wedding before? We never show anyone the images until the bride and groom have seen them.

Millie and James returned from their honeymoon last week so we took a projector and screen to their home on Thursday and showed them their images along with a proof of their album.

It seems like an age since we were at the Wessex Drainage Open Day at Salisbury Rugby Football Club. Zabrina and Ian (first picture below), directors of Wessex Drainage Solutions Limited put on the event to show current and perspective clients exactly what they can do for their clients.

Spire FM's Gemma McParland hosted her show from the event with many of the Spire FM team visiting during the day. All proceeds from the prize draw, etc. were donated to The Trussell Trust who were also in attendance.

Legacy Rose and Crown Hotel, Salisbury

I have been a bit amiss with my blogging of late. No this is not due to taking long holidays and lazy days in bed; although that does sound like a nice idea. I am now on a catch up week (although I realise it is nearly over already) and am going to get a few posts done while I can.

As some of the events have been military I will not be posting all that we have covered (we do not post service personnel in uniform for security reasons), but I will be adding a few to show the variety of work we have and do undertake.

The first of the "catch up" posts is of The Legacy Rose and Crown Hotel in Salisbury. We were commissioned to take some pictures of there wedding and board room set-ups, as well as there four poster bedroom and the rooms that overlook the cathedral. While we were there we also took a few images to show the beautiful location this hotel occupies.

On Thursday we were at Salisbury and South Wilts Golf Club at 7.30am for the Lucy's Days Out Golf Tournament. Organised by Ade Sainsbury of Value Cars with Julie and the team at Lucy's Days Out there were 31 teams totalling more than 120 golfers taking part in this event. The weather was gorgeous and everyone came ready to have a great day's golf and raise plenty of money for the charity.

Meeting to discuss Salisbury Car Parking charges

We attended a meeting that took place in The Pheasant Inn this morning to discuss the decision to remove the one hour parking from the city centre car parks and the detrimental effect it has had on business. Councillor Dick Tonge read out a prepared statement to those in attendance before taking questions on the decisions.

BTR - Business Through Referrals, of which I am a member meet every Thursday at the White Hart Hotel in Salisbury for breakfast at 0645. This morning was one of our regular visitors' days where we invite businesses to send a representative to come and see what we are all about.

As I said in my previous post on BTR I have been a member for just 4 months and have had many referrals, both internally, working for members, and externally, working for clients that the group have recommended me too. Weekly meetings are just part of what we do as a group with many social events being organised by the group, many of which paid for from BTR funds, which helps to build the relationships between the members.

'Constable and Salisbury' - A Private Viewing

Tonight we attended the Salisbury and District Chamber of Commerce Presidents Portfolio event: 'Constable and Salisbury'; A Private Viewing, as part of our duties as Chamber photographers.

About 35 guests enjoyed Champagne and Strawberries before being given a private viewing of the 'Constable and Salisbury' Exhibition at Salisbury Museum and a private tour of the Cathedral Close by one of the Blue Badge Guides.

The exhibition is on until the 25th September 2011 and is well worth a visit if you are in the area.

BTR - Business Through Referrals Networking Group

I am a member of a few networking groups in the Salisbury and Andover area. One of these groups is BTR - Business Through Referrals. We meet every Thursday at the White Hart Hotel in Salisbury for breakfast at 0645. It is quite a commitment but one I have been very glad I decided to make. There are currently about 20 of us in the group and one of the rules is that there is only person from each type of business allowed to be in the group at any one time; this means that the group promote only your company.

I have been a member for just 3 months and have had many referrals, both internally, working for members, and externally, working for clients that the group have recommended me too. As well as the weekly meetings there are also many social events that the group organise and attend which helps to build the relationships between the members and BTR as a group. One event that is being organised at present is for us all, as a group, to attend the Supercar Show at Wilton House. An area has been allocated, paid for out of the group funds, for us to promote the group and the individual businesses within. This is just one of the many business and social events that are organised for the benefit of the group.

East Tytherley Country Fayre

A few snaps from yesterday at East Tytherley Country Fayre. We were really lucky with the weather all day, the rain held off and the sun shone through, it was a little windy at times and one of the gazebos took off but we got it back and tied it down; not mine thankfully.

The country fayre is to raise money for repairs to the church roof and to bring the local people together. I was born only 1/2mile from where the fayre takes place and indeed I could see the house from my stand. My mum was helping out on the cake stall, selling the cakes which she makes for this event each year and giving all of the money to the fund.

I met some people from my school days which I hadn't seen for many, many years; it was good to catch up with them.

Salisbury Chamber Sea Fishing in Poole Bay

What a day! Sun, Sea, Boats, Fishing, great company, and a great crew in Skippers Trevor and Ray from Rocket Charters.

On Friday we were the guests of Salisbury Chamber on their boat for "The Big Slippery One 2011" organised by Hudson Green and Associates Limited in association with Silver Spray Charters.

Teams from RK Harrison, Innovate Ltd, Mercure White Hart Hotel, Coffin Mew, Begbies Traynor, CW Fellowes (Accountants), Jordans Residential Ltd, Salisbury Chamber of Commerce, Innotec Supplies (UK) Ltd, BWT Physiotherapy Centre, Salisbury Social Sea Angling, and Exmouth Deep Sea Fishing Club took part in this fun competition.

Each boat elected to raise money for a specific charity with the chamber boat raising money for ABF The Soldiers Charity. On our boat was Bryan Greenwood and Scott Hughes from Martin and Co, Peter Wilson from Salisbury Audi, Dean and Eric from ABF The Soldiers' Charity and myself. Only two of our group had ever been sea fishing before so we were very limited on experience but we were well looked after by Trevor and Ray, and Eric from ABF proved to be a dark horse in fishing terms doing a great job on his first ever trip.

After the fishing we all met in the Nelson Arms for Paella and a BBQ before prizes for best specimen, most fish, team prize, and best skipper were presented.
